'Let's go the a nice restaurant,' Baekhyun had said and of course who was Chanyeol to say no to his best friend-slash-whatever. Things have been varying degrees of complicated as of late, but one thing remained was the way they both still liked to tease each other relentlessly, one way or another. It wasn't any different from before, if fact everything was still very much still the same between the two of them. The only thing that changed was this added thing, how their touches seemed to hold a little bit of something more and it was obvious to only the two of them.

That wasn't why they were seated at some nice restaurant that was probably going to do a little harm to his wallet, though. It wasn't entirely out of his budget, per se, but this definitely wasn't a place that they'd usually go to if they were hungry and wanted a bite to eat. They were more of a jjajangmyun and jjampong types, not the sit down and stare at the menu and hope one of those zeroes would go away types. But Baekhyun wanted to go to a nice restaurant and when Chanyeol had asked, he had mentioned some place that he's never heard of. The name was foreign, awkward on his tongue, and he'd never heard of it before, but Chanyeol didn't think it'd be too bad when he had said okay. Definitely starting to regret that now that they were there.

At least they were dressed nicely instead of random sweaters and beanies and snapbacks, so people weren't too overly curious about why a bunch of kids were hanging around him nice place like this. "What did you want, again?" Chanyeol asked as he glanced over from his menu. The staring wasn't doing much of anything for him (that extra zero wasn't going anywhere any time soon) and if anything, it just made his stomach shrink in an effort to convince himself to get something cheap. Maybe Baekhyun can just order something and they can share it, then they can stop by some random fast food place on the way home. Surely Baekhyun wouldn't have a problem with that.

"They won't charge us more if we asked for more water, right?" Chanyeol wasn't completely clueless when it came to eating out at nice places (his sister's nice and she likes to spoil him from time to time and that's why he loves her dearly), but just knowing that he was about to shoulder all of this was making his head blank. "Let's just share something," he said as he nudged Baekhyun, who for some reason decided to seat himself right next to him rather than across. Whatever, their server didn't say anything about it, so this probably wasn't out of the ordinary or something. "We can even get like, a wine or whatever, too." Just to be safe, just to look like they fit in a little more and didn't look too out of place with the while table clothes and expensive looking napkins and shiny plates and silverware.

baekhyun can't explain why he decided that he wanted this. maybe it was something about the shift that had happened between them, the way that things between them are a little different (but still mostly the same) in the best sort of way. it's definitely the first time they've done something like this, and maybe he was just a little curious to see what chanyeol would say. curious about whether or not he would put up a fight but he's glad that he didn't, because he likes this. he likes being doted on in any capacity, and that's definitely what's happening because chanyeol has decided to shoulder the bill and baekhyun didn't even have to say anything about it. in some ways, it's kind of like a date. actually, it's exactly like a date, but baekhyun doesn't have any problem with that.

if he did, he wouldn't have suggested it, a nice place that he's heard of here and there and wanted to try out. he wouldn't have actually put a fair bit of effort into his outfit, still casual but worlds nicer than what he usually throws on if he's heading out with chanyeol for something. it's a definite plus of having this sort of in-between-whatever-it-is with his best friend, because he doesn't have to worry too much about impressing him unless he really wants to. he knows that chanyeol will tease the hell out of him regardless, and he'll gladly do the same, and that's all that matters.

he's placed himself in the seat right next to chanyeol instead of across from him for his own selfish reasons. it's good that they're where they are, in the corner and the place has kind of dim lighting in order to spread some candles around here and there. it really is fancy, even moreso than he had expected when he suggested it, so he doesn't have any problem with the two of them sharing something. he wants to be doted on in some capacity, but he doesn't want to completely drain chanyeol's bank account.

"wow ~ look at you, mr. smooth," he teases, giving chanyeol a nudge back in response and laughing before leaning closer to take a better look at the menu. he opts for that instead of looking at his own, because it's no secret that baekhyun enjoys invading people's personal space, especially chanyeol's. "wine sounds good. let's get ..... this one." he reaches over and points to one of the pasta dishes that seems to be in the middle of the restaurant's price range, because he doesn't think that that will be too damaging. once that decision is made he relaxes a little, though he's leaning into chanyeol's side a bit, easily sliding a hand up and down his thigh in a habit that isn't entirely out of the ordinary (and doesn't always mean anything). but that doesn't mean that he may not have something else under his sleeve. "this place is pretty upscale ... think we're gonna get kicked out?"

Even if it wasn't explicitly expressed, this really is something like a date. They're out together at some nice restaurant, dressed pretty well considering their normal attires, and Chanyeol's about to pay for every single thing that they order here. It's nothing out of the ordinary from what they'd usually do, but something about the general atmosphere of the location that made this feel more date-like rather than just some random hang out spot that they'd usually frequent. Chanyeol's definitely not complaining, though, because it is kind of nice to do things like this for Baekhyun. He's been quickly learning that the other enjoys this kind of attention, too, and he's learning that he doesn't mind giving him some of this type of attention. It's kind of nice, really.

The only thing not so nice is the fact that it felt like he was about to spend an entire paycheck in just one sitting. He's usually better with his money than that (but don't ask his sister what she thinks about that because she'd definitely suggest otherwise when it comes to his spending habits). Still, Baekhyun looked like he was enjoying himself enough and this was kind of a nice experience, anyway. If they disregarded the fact that the prices on the menu made his wallet sob quietly and how they were placed just off to the side when there were plenty of open tables near the middle of the restaurant. Chanyeol didn't take it personally, though; the place did have a reputation of sorts to uphold.

He couldn't help but roll his eyes at Baekhyun's tease, sitting back a bit to let the other look over his own menu. He was used to this type of behavior, the way Baekhyun would constantly invade his personal space even before this shift occurred in their friendship. That was another thing that was different between them now. Personal space is a foreign concept, but it was like it didn't exist now. Chanyeol didn't mind, though. He always was fond of the warmth of Baekhyun's body when the other was leaning into his side.

"So pasta..." Chanyeol mumbled to himself as he looked over the dish that Baekhyun had picked out. It didn't look insanely expensive like some of the steaks and various seafood dishes, but it wasn't cheap (or at least what would be considered cheap at a place like this) like some of the salads and appetizers. "We can ask what kind of wine goes with the pasta and order that," he continued because that was usually what his sister did when they were out to eat at nice places and the pair of wine and pasta usually never disappointed. While Chanyeol continued to scrutinize the menu, he was fully aware of the way Baekhyun's hand continued to move along his thigh but he paid no attention to it. It'd usually mean trouble when they were alone, but Chanyeol figured Baekhyun wasn't crazy enough to try something while they were out in public and at a nice restaurant, no less. "As long as we're paying customers, we better not get kicked out," Chanyeol said as he glanced over to the other to flash him a tight-lipped smile before raising a hand to try and catch a server's attention. "Just... Behave, Baek."

baekhyun honestly can't even remember the last time that he went on an actual date. it was probably with some random guy, some chance that he took that never actually amounted to anything. he hasn't dated anyone seriously in a long time, in some ways he doesn't consider any of his past crushes or flings serious. he doesn't exactly label this whatever he has going on with chanyeol as serious either, at least not yet, but he thinks that perhaps it has the potential to be. it's just another perk that comes from chanyeol being his best friend, and it's not an idea that he's entirely against entertaining.

maybe that's why he suggested all of this in the first place. or maybe he just missed the feeling, because he can't pretend like he doesn't love this kind of thing. besides, when else would they ever find an opportunity to come out to a place like this and dress up all nice and pretend like they're a little more fancy and mature than they really are? in some ways it's like a strange little getaway, and he's already more than intent on enjoying it to the fullest. even if that contains more than what chanyeol might be expecting.

it's a good thing that chanyeol doesn't mind the lack of personal space, because if he did then maybe things wouldn't have been as easy between them or worked out as well as they did. it's something that he loves about chanyeol, even moreso now that their relationship has started dipping into some new territory. everything with him is just so easy, effortless in a way that he hasn't really experienced outside of this but it only makes him want to keep going with it. he's always being a little reckless, it's something that's gotten him in trouble once or twice before but in most cases chanyeol is right there beside him. it's always been like that, even when they were just best friends doing stupid shit and somehow avoiding any kind of real trouble.

now, though, it's like a whole new world of possibilities has been unlocked, and he can't help but be curious about taking advantage of at least some of it. at the very least, he'll try, because he definitely isn't shy at all about these kinds of things. he nods to confirm what chanyeol suggests for the wine, and he notices the way that the other looks at him before trying to flag down a server. he looks like maybe he has a vague idea that baekhyun could be up to no good, and the comment only confirms it. he grins, but falls quiet whenever a server actually approaches, letting chanyeol take on the task of actually ordering for them. but he doesn't pull his touch back or lighten it up in the slightest. instead, he gives it a subtle push in the opposite direction, letting his fingers slide a little farther up and toward his inner thigh, definitely less than innocent now. "i don't know what you're talking about," he finally comments once the server is safely out of earshot. "i'm on my best behavior."

Chanyeol wouldn't consider himself a serial dater or anything like that, but he is the type who does go out on them quite often. He can admit that he was a fairly popular guy and he often caught the attention of quite a number of people. From guys at coffeeshops to girls while jogging around the park, Chanyeol's no stranger to meeting people at random and striking up good conversations. It's not foreign territory for numbers to be exchanged and dates to be made, but things never really progress into relationships because somewhere along the way Chanyeol always figures that the people he's with are better friends than anything else. It's really curious, how things between him and Baekhyun are progressing. It's not a bad thing that lines are being crossed, but it's definitely curious because he never thought Baekhyun (his own best friend) would be someone he'd ever see as his type.

This is nice though, because he doesn't have to go through the painstaking task of getting to know someone and wondering if they'd be a good match for each other. He already knew that he and Baekhyun matched pretty well, because why else would they have hit it off literally right after they had met each other? They were usually off in their own littler world and when they weren't there, they were out terrorizing their friends with random pranks and relentless teasing. It wasn't probably too much of a surprise that things kind of escalated to something a little more from there. It was kind of expected, which was why Chanyeol didn't seem too worried about this sudden shift in their friendship. Maybe it was because the shift wasn't as sudden as it seemed.

It was a fairly easy task to flag someone down to their table despite feeling like they were way out of the sight from the general bustle of where they all seemed to float around. Not surprising, though, since it wasn't like they were the only ones in their area. Chanyeol smiled as someone approached, taking care to look over the menu and read off their order, as well as strike up a short conversation about what would go well with the pasta. If Chanyeol thought that Baekhyun was going to back off for just a moment, he was sorely mistaken. If anything it seemed like Baekhyun was upping the ante with the way his touch suddenly wandered toward his inner thigh and up. The move surprised Chanyeol, causing him to flinch noticeably in his seat and bump up against the table with a low thud. If their server thought something was wrong, he was kind enough to not point it out.

"What are you doing?!" Chanyeol practically hissed under his breath when they were left alone. He reached down to try and stop the other, pressing his larger hand over Baekhyun's smaller one wherever it was right that moment. He was no stranger to Baekhyun antics, but this was a bit much. The other was generally touchy (more than he was, even), but that usually happened behind closed door and in the privacy of their apartment. "Baekhyun, we're in public! We can't do this in public!" Chanyeol tried to reprimand, though he was far from upset with the other. Chanyeol was a softie when it came to Baekhyun, to the point that he could hardly get mad at him for pretty much anything. "You have to behave!"

baekhyun knows that his best friend is a pretty popular guy. they both are, in their own ways. baekhyun just tends more towards flirting and one night stands or random hookups than actually going out on real dates or becoming friends with the people who are interested in him. it's just a difference in their personalities and the way that they operate, and there's nothing wrong with that. but it does make it all the more interesting that things between them are developing like they are. he doesn't usually find himself getting physically involved with people that he's legitimately friends with, but so far there haven't been any negative consequences. if anything it's been better than he could have imagined, so he's happy to just keep it going and see where it all leads.

so far, it's been nice enough not to have to worry too much about being shot down or judged when it comes to anything. he knows chanyeol well enough to know that the other is usually down or almost anything, and he also knows about the soft spot that chanyeol has for him. that's not to say that he takes advantage of him or does anything maliciously, but it does mean that he can be reckless and more often than not, he can convince chanyeol to just go along with it and be reckless right along with him. and right now, he's hoping that it will be one of those situations.

what he really doesn't expect is the reaction that he gets when chanyeol finally seems to realize what he's doing. the jump makes it hard for him to suppress a small snicker until the waiter is out of earshot, but once he is he can't hold it in. it's just funny, because he knows perhaps better than anyone else that chanyeol isn't exactly an innocent person. he's far less than innocent whenever they're alone in private together, and if that were the case he could easily slide himself into chanyeol's lap and get things heated in less than five minutes. this will be a little more challenging than that, but he's sure that it will be worth it, and nothing is going to deter him.

so he really doesn't mind when chanyeol is covering his hand with his own, trying to reprimand him or convince him to stop or something. it isn't going to work, and that much is already clear by the way that he's grinning instead of looking surprised or ashamed or like he feels bad about any of this in the slightest. he doesn't, and he bites his lip playfully, squeezing his fingers a little against their spot on his inner thigh because he's stubborn and unrelenting and chanyeol definitely has to know that by now.
